Markets are compared against their own previous published rate, so a market that skipped a day is still measured correctly.

India price guide

How to read today’s egg price in India

Today’s egg price is market-specific

As of 17 August 2026, this India egg rate summary covers 34 published market prices and has an all-India average of ₹5.40 per egg. The average is a national comparison point, not a separate city price. For a useful egg rate in India, begin with the row for the market nearest to the transaction and check the date printed with it. Today’s observed range runs from Raipur at ₹4.80 to Chennai at ₹6.00, a spread of ₹1.20 per egg.

Wholesale egg price versus retail egg price

Every egg market price in the table is a dated wholesale reference for one egg. Tray, hundred and peti values are exact multiples of that same base rate, so they support like-for-like quantity comparisons. A retail egg price may be higher after transport, grading, packaging, breakage, delivery and the seller’s margin are added. Use the egg price calculator for a custom wholesale quantity, then treat any local retail additions separately rather than presenting them as part of the published rate.

NECC, poultry and daily rate terms

When comparing an NECC egg rate or NECC egg price with another poultry egg rate or egg market price, keep the market, applicable date and per-egg unit aligned. A number from a different city or an older print is not a direct same-day comparison. The daily egg rate movement shown here compares each market with its own previous published observation:2 moved higher, 0 moved lower and 32 were unchanged.

Use the searchable egg-rate-today board to sort all rows, compare state averages, or browse every tracked market for dated local history. This keeps an egg price today tied to a real location and observation instead of treating one India-wide headline as the price paid everywhere.

Questions

Egg rates, explained

What does the egg rate on this site mean?
It is a wholesale reference price for a single egg at a given market, shown with the date it applies to. Retail prices can sit above it once transport, handling, breakage and a seller’s margin are added, so treat it as a market benchmark rather than a shop price.
How often are the rates on this site updated?
Once a day. Every row shows the exact date its price applies to, so you can always see when a market has no newer figure yet rather than being shown a stale price as today’s.
Why is the egg rate different in every city?
Published rates can differ because local supply, demand, transport, handling and reporting conditions vary. Distance from producing areas may contribute to a gap, but the board alone does not establish the cause of a particular city’s price on a given day.
What is a peti and how many eggs does it hold?
A peti (also called a case) is the standard wholesale carton of 210 eggs, made up of seven 30-egg trays. Wholesale deals are usually struck per peti or per 100 eggs, while the rate itself is quoted per single egg. Every market page on this site shows all four.
Can I calculate the price of 12, 24 or another number of eggs?
Yes. Open the egg price calculator, choose a market and enter any whole quantity from 1 to 100,000 eggs. The answer is exact multiplication of that market’s dated wholesale rate; it does not add a retail margin, delivery or packaging costs.
Can I save EggRate Hub to my phone’s home screen?
Use your browser menu or share sheet and choose Add to Home screen when that option is available. This creates a convenient shortcut; it does not make daily rates available offline, so the site still needs a connection for the latest rebuilt pages.
Where can I see the rate history for one market?
Open any market from the rate board or the market directory. Each market page shows its latest published price per egg, tray, hundred and peti, its applicable date, and the daily and monthly history available for that centre.
Why can egg prices change with the seasons?
Weather, laying conditions and seasonal buying can all affect supply and demand, but their timing and impact vary by place and year. Use each market’s dated history to check the observed pattern instead of assuming a fixed winter or summer cycle.
