Why state rates can differ
Published egg rates can vary by state because production, demand, transport, handling and reporting conditions differ by location. Freight can be one factor, particularly where eggs travel farther from producing areas, but the board alone does not prove the cause of any single day’s price gap.
A state average also depends on the markets represented. A state with one tracked market should not be compared as though it were a broad statewide survey, while a state with several markets can show a meaningful internal range. Open a state page to see the contributing rows rather than relying on the average alone.
Weather, feed costs and seasonal buying may affect the wider market, but their timing and impact are not fixed. Market-level history lets you inspect the published observations that are actually available for each place.
